Research Interests
Sietske Berghuis, MD PhD, is a Post-doctoral Fellow in the Till lab. She received her Medical Degree and PhD at the University Medical Center in Groningen, the Netherlands. The focus of her PhD was on the effects of prenatal exposure to persistent organic pollutants on neurodevelopment and the endocrine system until adolescence.
Sietske is a Psychiatrist in training, and interested in understanding the possible role of environmental chemicals in the etiology of neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder. The aim of the current project is to elucidate whether disturbances in thyroid hormone metabolism are mediating the associations between chemicals and child neurodevelopment.
Sietske did receive the Academy Ter Meulen Grant from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in The Netherlands to support her for this Post-doctoral Fellowship at the Till lab.
